Paula Grookett I am an artist who lives and paints in Columbia, SC. I have always been drawn to the watercolor medium but have had no formal training in art, painting or drawing. I retired in 1996 after working for 32 years with the public school system where I taught English in middle and high schools and served as a middle school librarian and a district instructional media/technology administrator. In 1999 I decided to pursue an interest in watercolor so I signed up for an art class and discovered that I loved painting! I constantly seek inspiration from my surroundings and from the artists in my community. I am a member of three art guilds in the Columbia area. I am very active in and volunteered my time and computer skills to the Trenholm Artists Guild by designing and maintaining their website (www.trenholmartistsguild.org). I also built and maintain the Crooked Creek Art League's website (www.crookedcreekart.org) and the Seven Oaks Art League (www.sevenoaksart.org). I hope you will visit those sites too! I try to spend a part of each day drawing or painting. Sometimes I do this at home in a room that I have made into my "studio." I also paint each Wednesday with the Trenholm Artists Guild at Forest Lake Park here in Columbia. I especially enjoy painting flowers but other subjects entice me from time to time. My newest passion is colored pencil portraits. I began painting relatives but now am doing commission work as my time permits. In January 2009, I joined the Village Artists Gallery at the Village at Sandhill in northeast Columbia, S.C. The gallery features 28 local artists and is a new venue for my artwork.
